What is Microsclerotherapy?
Microsclerotherapy is a safe and effective treatment designed to treat spider veins most commonly found on the legs. It involves the injection of a foreign substance called sclerosant into the involved veins with ultra-fine needles which irritates the lining of the veins, resulting in the walls to sticking together and becoming no longer visible.
What is Fibrovein?
Fibrovein is detergent based sclerosant and is licensed for the treatment of varicose veins. It was first registered in the UK in 1967 and is currently registered in 30 countries.
What can we treat with Microsclerotherapy?
Telangiectasia or ‘Spider Veins’- these are engorged veins which lie close to the skin.
Reticular Veins – these are usually larger in size. Often referred to as ‘Feeder Veins’.
How is it applied?
Microsclerotherapy is administered by a trained medical practitioner and is injected into the thread veins on the legs.
What happens during the treatment?
The procedure generally takes around 30 – 45 minutes to administer depending on how many veins need treating. At Dermatox Skin Clinic, the medical practitioner will perform a physical exam and gather your medical history. They will then use a fine needle to slowly insert a solution into the appropriate vein. The number of injections depends on the number and size of veins being treated. The procedure is not painful; however you might experience minor stinging or cramps when the needle is inserted into the vein. There is little to no recovery time following the procedure, meaning you can return to work or day to day activities immediately.
Are there any side effects?
- Brusing
- Swelling
- Tenderness
- Haemosiderin-hyperpigmentation
- Itching
- Matting
When can I see the results and how many sessions will i need?
If you were treated for small varicose veins or spider veins, you can usually expect to see definitive results in three to six weeks. Larger veins may require 3-4 months. we often find that some clients see results after one treatment, whereas others will need a course of three to see optimum results. Treatments are carried out 4 week internals, so plan for the treatment to take around three months.
How long does it last?
Microsclerotherapy is a permanent treatment. Veins that respond to the treatment generally don’t come back but new veins may appear.
